One week in the Maldives is NEVER enough! The flights are always tiring, but when you step off the aircraft - boy is it worth it! We have just returned from our fourth visit to Sun Island and never tire of the place or the staff. If you are visiting one of the outer atols do try to get a seaplane transfer - a 2-3 hours sea transfer is no joke!

Anyone needing further info can get me us at jd@acmail.co.uk
We will be happy to help.

Reply from: Glenys -  United Kingdom -  Reply
Reply date: 24th Feb 2008 / id: 2458

You only need to take a few clothes, as people don't tend to dress up, it's usually very casual.
It's very hot so just light clothing.
Just a pair of flip flops, certainly no heels required.
Plenty of high factor suncream is required, at least factor 30, believe me you will tan nicely with that.
If you intend to snorkel then please make sure you wear a tshirt, the amount of people that get badly burned as they don't realise how strong the sun is when they are swimming.
Also make sure you smother your legs with sun cream before swimming.
You will love the Maldives, and i guarantee you will want to return.

Just got back from Eriyadu and Angaga after a 25 day long trip. Skipped all the
charter companies and booked all accomodations directly through Impex Holidays,
Maldives, and the flights on the airlines homepage (Qatar Airlines) That way we saved
a lot of money and everything worked out very well. Full board accomodation pn both
islands was prepaid to Impex. You might feel a little bit unsecure prepaying
thousands of dollars to a company you have only read about on the net, but after a
little bit of research with almost no complaints we booked. It worked out 100% to our
expectations. Impex met up on arrival and departure. Boat transfer (Eriyadu) and
seaplane transfer (Angaga) was very well organized. When changing island, they even
managed to hold the seaplane an hour on a Friday when our boat transfer from Eriyadu
was late due to some misunderstanding. I find their homepage excellent with accurate
info and quick email responses. Ready
to do it all over again.

Hi, I extensively researched almost all of the resorts in the Maldives, as we are going there for our honeymoon. I'm a very analytical person! We almost decided to go to Cinnamon, but I'm glad we didn't. At first glance it seems like a nice place, but after closer inspection I found many drawbacks. The best place to read about these, as well as about ALL the other islands are on Trip Advisor (www.tripadvisor.com), where people who have been there before give their comments and ratings. It's an excellent site with great info! You'll find everything you need to know on there, including photos of people who went there, so no photoshopped or "fixed" photos... By the way, we ended up booking Angsana Ihuru (take note there is also an Angsana Velavaru - not the same thing at all!). If you are looking for nice sandy lagoons, like I am too, then this one will work. Otherwise I'd recommend Kuredu, where I've been to before and where I actually wanted to go for our honeymoon but was fully booked - very good value for money! Hope this helps. If you have more questions, you can email me on mirike.dupreez@sanlam.co.za. Hope you have a fabulous anniversary! Regards

Hi, we are going to sun island for two weeks half board, can someone please tell me
what is included in this as my travel agent didnt even seem to know. ie: drinks at
meal times. water in rooms, towels, and are the drinks expensive, do they have a shop
where you can buy these from? sorry for all the questions but no-one seems to
know.

cheers

Hi Lindsey
Can't believe your travel agent didn't know what was included in HB.
Anyway it includes breakfast and evening meal, no drinks and no water in room.
Drinks are fairly expensive.
Towels and beach towels are provided.
There are a couple of shops but are very limited to what they sell.
Only a few choices of sun tan lotions, shower gels, shampoos etc and they are expensive, so please take your own.
You can upgrade to AI before you go if you are worried about prices of drinks.
AI includes drinks in main bar, main restaurant, beach bar and the pool swim up bar. You also get 2 large bottles of water in your room each day.
We found AI was best for us, so we didn't have to worry about a big bill at the end of our holiday, but some people prefer HB or FB
Hope this helps

Hi, I haven't been to Sun island but have been to Kuredu and I know it's mostly the same throughout the Maldives. We went on halfboard, and it then includes only breakfast and dinner. I can't remember having any free drinks at dinner, and in general you have to pay for any drinks you want to have including in your room, in the minibar. Drinks are quite expensive, but at least you earn Pounds About $6 for a soft drink (Approx 1.25 pounds I think). For the specific resort you're going to, the best place to get info on these kinds of things are to go to Trip Advisor on the net (www.tripadvisor.com). You can see reviews and ratings from guests who have been there before - excellent info on ANYwhere! Hope you find what you're looking for - I know how frustrating travel agents can be. Have now booked through Impex on the net, and find it to be MUCH better than your usual travel agent in the mall. Enjoy!

Hi Lindsey, regarding your question to Glenys about the alcohol, you're not allowed to take any into the country. They will confiscate it and give it back to you when leaving the contry. You can buy at the bar, not sure about bottles though- Glenys?

Reply from: Glenys -  United Kingdom -  Reply
Reply date: 24th Feb 2008 / id: 2459

Hi Lyndsey
Definately you cannot take alcohol into the country, if you are AI you will get these free apart from certain spirits and cocktails. If not AI you can obviously buy at the bar glasses of alcohol.
No you would not be able to buy bottles whilst there.
Sorry not replied sooner, we are returning to Sun Island tomorrow so have been busy with pre holiday preparations.

Hi, go to Trip Advisor (www.tripadvisor.com) - you can read reviews of guests who've been there before and view their photos - excellent info on anywhere and everywhere! Alot of reading but totally worth it - it saved me from going to a few "unsuitable" destinations.

I am interested in a 5 night stay at Vilamendhoo at the end of Feb 2008 on an AI
basis. Can somebody please advise what AI actually includes and is it worth it? or
should I just opt for Full Board?

Thanks in advance,

Bev

Reply date: 17th Feb 2008 / id: 2447

Hi, AI means that, like Full Board, you get your three meals a day, however on AI you also get free drinks. The kind of drinks that are included on AI vary from resort to resort. The best place to find opinions on this from people who have actually been there before is on Trip advisor (www.tripadvisor.com) - it helped me immensely! I'm recommending it to everyone! You can read reviews and see photos on any destination you want, from people who've been there - very good info, you'll probably get an indication of what drinks cost on the specific island and people's opinions on AI, Full B etc. We'll be going to Angsana Ihuru begining of April, on Full Board. They don't have AI option. If they did, I would have taken it. I hate worrying about money and how much I'm spending the whole time. Most of the time it will be a bit cheaper when you just buy your drinks instead of AI, but it just easier to be able to drink and not worry. That's my personal feeling though. Good luck!

I have been three times to Sun Island and have never seen a kids club there. I also did not notice any child minding facilities.

just returned from sun island with the family and found the resort in general value
for money. however as mentioned in previous posts the attitude of some of the staff
was well below expectations. on arrival in mali, our sea plane transfers had not
been arranged as paid for and we wasted two hours waiting for a boat followed by 3
hours travelling to the resort. The staff at the airport and at the reception on
arival took the attitude of its not my problem and were not prepared to investigate
despite presentation of vouchers and copies of sales invoice. Even after three days
the return had not been fixed until phones calls back to the travel agent in the uk.

Hello!

My flight arrives on Male at 7.40am so I would probably be at

Most of the resorts do allow early check-in on arrival if they have vacant rooms available - if not you will need to wait at the lobby until the check-in time.

We came here for our honeymoon back in Sept 2006 and stayed in a water bungalow. The

in a water bungalow. The Spa too is throughly enjoyable and very reasonably priced,
it was nice having a treatment together.
