Surfing in Maldives »::Surf Sites in Male' atoll »::Tips for Surfers»
Most of the tourists who come to
surf in Maldives flock to only 7 surf sites lying north of the
airport. Due to the increase in the number of surfers,
specially during the high season, the surf points in South Male'
atoll are now a little crowded.
For experienced surfers, the surf points in Huvadhoo atoll are a real challenge. This is
the single biggest natural Atoll in Maldives and lie at the edge
of the two and half degree channel, which runs across Maldives.
The atoll is about 300Km south of the International airport. Surfers who has visited these sites depict these
sites much vigorous
than which are found in Male' atoll.
There are no tourist
accommodation in any of the inhabited islands in this atoll and tourists
will have to take accommodation on locally built Live-aboard
vessels. There are vessels available with accommodation upto 20
guests. Since there is a local airport in one of the islands,
Ga'dhoo with flights 4 to 5 days a week the transportation
difficulty has also become a thing of the past. The flying time
from the International airport is around 1 hour 10 minutes.
Everything has to be arranged
before-hand. Since the vessels take 2 days to reach this
atoll, it has to start sailing before you arrive so that you
wouldn't lose time and your local air tickets needs prior
reservation due to a high local demand.
This opportunity is only for professional surf
groups and it will be too costly to arrange a trip for a single
person. Interested parties can email us at
holidays@impex.com.mv
We will be posting a map of this
atoll very soon.
