One of the great attractions of the Maldives is the seemingly endless number of top-quality diving options. When combined with its unique islander lifestyle, it is not surprising that divers are lured back again and again to this Indian Ocean Archipelago. 
The latest addition are the 'SPA' resorts & Maldives has some of the best known brands in the world. The treatments vary in range and there are also resorts which offer medicinal treatments like Ayurveda which is now very popular among Europeans tourists as well. 
Recently Maldives has spelled herself as one of the most demanding luxury destinations in the world. Most resorts have rebuilt itself and world famous luxury brand names have invested in Maldives to create their own luxury resorts in Maldivian style. 
There are still value resorts in Maldives but one would hesitate call these budget resorts. In the years to come there are plans to built more lower-end resorts with a more compact style. The beach located guest houses are more affordable but offer less prviacy. 
Maldives is 99% water so there is no reason why Maldives may not be a destination for water sports. Recent additions include, more vigorous kite surfing as well and then there is wave-surfing which has be known to Maldives for a few year now. 
Maldives may not be the perfect gateway for a family holiday but still there are resorts, more conscious about the fact that people may want to come to Maldives with their children and this includes some of the luxury resorts as well.
